self-portrait in heterotopia 헤테로토피아 속 자화상 :

This work originates from my experience of living and working in various spaces during a long period of studying abroad. Although I remained the same person, each space demanded a different role.

School, factories, and restaurants presented themselves as ordinary places, yet they operated under different logics.

In these spaces, I existed less as an individual and more as a functional entity. The senses of safety, alienation, and obligation overlapped and continuously shifted.

Michel Foucault’s concept of heterotopia provides a framework for understanding these experiences.

Here, heterotopia is not a singular or exceptional site, but a condition produced through spatial relations.

Fragmented bodies and repetitive forms visualize a self divided and reorganized by space.

This is not a portrait of physical appearance, but of a psychological state shaped by place.
